Using Pop Culture to Boost Your Brand on Social Media

let's be honest—social media and pop culture go hand-in-hand.

whenever there's a major pop culture moment, our feeds are spammed with businesses, creators, and brands posting memes, reactions, or tweets. i mean, taylor swift did make travis kelce famous... just kidding!

does this mean your brand needs to make a meme about EVERY single pop culture moment? absolutely not.

there's a time and a place for pop culture to exist within your social media strategy, and understanding your audience is essential. let's dive into the four ways you can use pop culture within your social media strategy to boost your brand visibility.

  1. using images and videos to create memes

who doesn't love a good meme? a meme is essentially a concept or idea that is being widely shared across social media platforms. memes are typically funny or sarcastic (at least, that's the goal!) memes are great for your socials because they are easily shareable, timely, and relatable. for latinx heritage month, we used an image of skakira and karol g at the 2023 video music awards. not only are they both latin queens, but the video music awards JUST happened. think about your audience's likes, dislikes, and their pain points when creating memes. keep in mind, using someone else's likeness for your own brand comes with a risk factor. meme at your own risk!

2. create reels and tiktoks using trending audio or capcut templates

utilizing trending audios or capcut templates is an easy way to increase your reach. when you're picking a trending sound to use, make sure that it relates to your audience and brand. if you can't find a connection between the audio and your brand, it's best to steer clear. there's plenty of trends out there for every niche, so keep scrolling until you find another trend to jump on! pro tip: trends most often start on tiktok and take days or weeks to make their way over to instagram, so implement those tiktok trends into your IG strategy asap! but again, do it legally!

@lidavisocial as social media managers, there are a lot of things we pay attention to that others don't 👀 like: 1. how tons of followers don't = profit 2. how going viral doesn't = success what other stats look like success from the outside, but don't actually matter much? leave us a comment 👇 #socialmediamarketing #socialmediaagency #socialmediamanagers #femalefounder ♬ original sound - Lidavi Social

3. share a tweet (or thread) that you find relatable as a static post on IG

repurposing your favorite trending tweets or threads into static content on IG is a great way to share a pop culture moment. take a screenshot of the content and use your own branding to make it aesthetic. be sure to give credit!

4. add pop culture lingo into your captions or additional content (blogs, newsletters, and more)

referencing a trending topic in your captions is a subtle (but effective) way to add pop culture into your content (chef’s kiss!)

always consider your brand voice! the last thing you want is to fall victim to a pop culture trend that is off-brand or inappropriate. let's not get cancelled…

using pop culture within your social media strategy shows that your brand is timely, relatable, and HUMAN. try out these tips and see how your audience engages.
